California to Ban Popcorn Food Flavoring Chemical
The state of California is aiming to ban a food flavoring chemical used in popcorn that has been linked in studies to lung disease. Well, that does sound like a novel idea, to ban the chemical.
The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health has revealed that the rare lung disease is also known as Popcorn Workers Lung, and it is becoming too common a situation in popcorn factories.
Currently there is no federal law prohibiting the use of the chemical, though California aims to ban the substance by 2010.
