“Nine out of ten people like chocolate. The tenth person always lies.” – John Q. Tullius
Everyone adores chocolate and this is a fact. They are sinfully good despite the calories, but there is no need to be guilty because they have health benefits too. Studies show that chocolates can help with depression, pre-menstrual syndromes, high blood pressure and they can reduce the risk of tumors too. So here is a simple chocolate recipe that you can prepare anytime. This yummy dessert is perfect for any time of the day. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
375g dark chocolate, chopped
2 1/2 cups pure icing sugar
1 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon peppermint essence
Grease a shallow square cake pan with vegetable oil. Line the base and the sides of the pan with baking paper. Make sure that it hangs on all sides.
Place half of the chocolate in a heatproof bowl or double boiler. Melt the chocolate by placing the bowl or double boiler over boiling water. Stir constantly until the chocolate melts. You may also microwave it on high if desired. Pour the melted chocolate into the pan. Refrigerate it for 15-20 minutes or until it sets.
Sift the sugar into a medium sized saucepan. Add the oil and milk. Mix well to form a paste. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Cook it for 3-5 minutes until it forms a smooth paste. Stir constantly. Fold in the peppermint essence and then remove from heat. Let it cool for around 10-15 minutes. Add a tablespoon of milk or more if the paste is too thick. Once the peppermint paste is cool spread it over the chocolate in the pan. Refrigerate it for another 15-20 minutes until it sets.
Melt the remaining chocolate just like you did the first time. Pour the chocolate over the peppermint and then refrigerate it for another 15-20 minutes until the chocolate sets. Remove the chocolate from the pan by lifting the edges of the baking sheet. Cut the chocolate mints into squares by using a sharp or warm greased knife. Serve immediately or store it in an air-tight container.
