We’ve heard it through the nose about how good green tea is for us & I personally have a cup of hot green tea every morning I can.  Green tea has taken over the culinary word, from that green tea bath spa to cookbooks.

Today’s cookbook is all about the precious green tea we all know & love.  “Green Tea: 50 Hot Drinks, Cool Quenchers, and Sweet and Savory Treats” is chocked full of heavenly recipes on getting the most out of this particular type of tea, as well as getting the most flavor.

This cookbook, written by Mary Lou Heiss, really helps you get the most of out green tea & is an excellent gift idea for Valentine’s Day!

Cookbook of the Day: ‘1001 Restaurant Secrets for Creative Everyday Cooking’

January 23, 2007 | Posted by Allison as Cookbook of the Day at 7:00 am | (1) Comment »

cookbook-clipart.gifI have a great cookbook for you today, you just don’t even know.  Mike Hayden’s new book, “1001 Restaurant Secrets for Creative Everyday Cooking”, is an incredible way to save money & reveal creative dishes to your family every day.

Hayden, cook & author, announced Tuesday that he has released this new cookbook as a newer & better version of his kitchen bible, ”The Handbook of Hassle-Free Homecookin’.”  This new handy dandy cookbook teaches us restaurant tips & techniques we can use at home to prepare foods, conserve nutrition values, as well as serving & entertaining.  It’s basically everything you need about the kitchen & cooking in one book.

Chef Hayden says his new cookbook will teach you the basics & then some, saying, “Most recipe books tell you what to cook but very little about the basics of how to cook and manage a kitchen. People have always served food in social gatherings, from small intimate dinners to large holiday feasts. You know what I’m talking about - family gatherings, Sunday brunch, anniversary dinners, intimate midnight snacks… At these times, you want feelings of warmth, love and closeness. With just a few simple touches, you can make your meals radiate new warmth and love.”

I love it & I think this is a great gift idea for any aspiring cooks out there.

Cookbook of the Day: ‘My Grandmother’s Chinese Kitchen’ by Eileen Yin-fei Lo

January 16, 2007 | Posted by Allison as Cookbook of the Day at 7:46 am | Comments »

eileen-yin-fei-lo-cookbook-1-16-07.jpgChinese cooking isn’t that easy to do if you haven’t grown up around the ingredients & cooking methods used in this type of cuisine.  That’s why I rely on Eileen Yin-fei Lo’s “My Grandmother’s Chinese Kitchen: 100 Family Recipes and Life Lessons”.

Lo was born & raised in Guangdong, a southeastern province of China which is known for their less spicy Cantonese cooking.  More than just a cookbook, Lo’s new book is a dedication to her grandmother who had a strong impact on Lo.

Lo writes, “Not only did she teach me to cook practically, but (she) saw to it that I learned as well the methods and philosophies of cookery, the joy of creation.”

This is a great cookbook that not only introduces you to Cantonese cooking, but to the memories of Eileen Yin-fei Lo as well, a very charming cookbook.
