Federal Trade Commission Frowns on Whole Foods/Wild Oats Merger
As we reported back in February, Whole Foods is planning on merging with health food stores Wild Oats Markets. Well, it looks like the plan has run into a bit of a snag.
The Federal Trade Commission is aiming to stop the merger, stating that the two giants together would lead to higher prices & be a bad overall experience for consumers.
But a Whole Foods chairman revealed, “The F.T.C. has failed to recognize the robust competition in the supermarket industry, which has grown more intense as competitors increase their offerings of natural, organic and fresh products; renovate their stores; and open stores with new banners and formats resembling Whole Foods Market.”
