Lasagna is a great meal for anyone that likes things like pizza and pasta. Much like pizza, there are many things you can do with lasagna to change things up. While traditionally it’s just lasagna noodles, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese and some burger, you can swap out any and all of these ingredients and make a lasagna that will amaze your whole family (and taste great).
Make sure that you don’t go too think on the cheese. This can be a choking hazard for some, and if you’re eating alone and have a habit of having eating issues you may want to consider investing in a medical alert device.
Now, it’s time to eat. Here are some things to consider when it comes to your next lasagna dish.
How To Cook It
Traditionally, you’d use a lasagna pan to layer your pasta and other ingredients in and bake the lasagna in the oven (suggested cooking time can differ depending on your ingredients). Not all lasagnas need to be layered either. You could make a lasagna dish with chopped up or smaller lasagna noodles.
Make it in a pan if you want to do smaller noodles. You can even still make it in layers with the pan method. Here is one fun recipe for a pan cooked lasagna. When it comes to pan lasagna, don’t be afraid to get creative with the ingredients. A chicken lasagna with your choice of white cheese and some fresh asparagus would be delicious.
You can also make your lasagna in a crockpot. There are lots of recipes online for this, and you basically just layer your lasagna in your crockpot the same as you would an oven pan. It lets you prep it in the morning and let it cook throughout the day so it can be ready when it’s time to eat.
Try Different Ingredients
Part of making a great lasagna is trying new things. Instead of always making your lasagna the same way, try switching things up once in awhile. This can be fun to do, even if you only change one ingredient.
Some people use cottage cheese instead of ricotta in their lasagna. You can use sausage instead of ground beef. Try adding some pepperoni or salami on one layer of your lasagna. Cheese and meat aren’t the only ingredients you can change up either.
If you’re tired of normal noodles, or you’re gluten free and you’re tired of the price of wheat-free noodles, try slices of zucchini as your noodles instead. Slice them the long way so they kind of resemble a noodle. It adds a little bit different flavor to your meal, but also makes it much healthier.
Add other veggies to your lasagna as well, and switch up sauces too. Alfredo sauce with chicken and broccoli in a lasagna is delicious, or you could use sausage for a little extra flavor. Dicing up fresh tomatoes or making your own tomato sauce for your lasagna is another great idea for making a delicious lasagna your friends will be jealous of.
