Well, even though we woke up this morning with a small helping of snow in the hollow of Nashville, the official word from Gobbler’s Knob says that spring is on its way.  Here’s the word from Punxsutawney Phil on today, Groundhog’s Day:

“El Nino has caused high winds, heavy snow, ice and freezing temperatures in the west.
Here in the East with much mild winter weather we have been blessed.

Global warming has caused a great debate.
This mild winter makes it seem just great.

On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing.
Will we have winter or will we have spring?

On Gobbler’s Knob I see no shadow today.
I predict that early spring is on the way.”

Whew!  That is one smart groundhog!  Well, I guess I’ll just have to get over the idea of having winter stay around a little but longer.  But don’t you worry, the day isn’t done quite yet.  Thanks to reader Michele, we have a Groundhog’s Day surprise treat on the way.  Stay tuned!
