Well, it looks like university students are taking director Morgan Spurlock more seriously than the movie awards.Â
A group of Swedish university students are participating in a study that recreates Spurlock’s fast food experiment filmed in the movie Super Size Me. Under the direction of professor Fredrik Nyström, two groups of young medical students will be stuffing their faces with fast foods & avoiding exercise- actually sounds like some friends of mine.
The students are required to get all of their calories from fast food, although they are allowed to make breakfast at home as long as it’s “bacon-and-eggs based”.
Nyström expected a low turn-out for the fast food study and was surprised to have highly eager volunteers. More men than women applied for the experiment & the professor chose the most highly motivated, who would be able to stick with the 6,000 calories per day menu.
The only real control on the study is that the Swedish Ethics Board has the authority to remove students / guinea pigs if they should increase their bodyweight more than 15%.
