Burger Steak with Mushroom Gravy

May 10, 2011 By Delia

This tasty dish is a hit for all ages. It is both meaty and creamy too. You can even make different variations of sauce or gravy by adding some wine or caramelized onions. I prefer eating it with rice or a ton of mashed potatoes.

Serves 4

Ingredients:

1 to 1 1/4 pounds extra lean ground beef

1/4 teaspoon ground pepper

1 teaspoon garlic salt

3 tablespoons fine dry bread crumbs

2 tablespoons milk

1 large egg, slightly beaten

2 tablespoons grated onion

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2 to 3/4 cup thinly sliced mushrooms

2 tablespoons flour

1 cup beef broth

Place the ground beef, garlic salt, pepper and bread crumbs in a bowl. Mix well. Shape the ground beef into 4 or 8 patties.

Heat the oil in a skillet under medium heat. Fry the beef patties for 5-8 minutes on each side or until they are browned and cooked. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil.

Remove the excess drippings from the pan, but leave 2 tablespoons. Add the mushrooms and cook it for 3-5 minutes or until tender. Stir in the flour and slowly pour in the beef broth. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally.

Place the beef patties on individual plates and pour mushroom sauce over them. Serve with mashed potatoes or mixed vegetables.
