Grilled Mushroom Burger

April 7, 2011 By Delia

Mushrooms are good alternatives for meat when it comes to burgers. They have a good texture and they can easily be flavored to suit your taste. Here’s a vegetarian burger recipe that is best served with fries.

Ingredients:

1 sweet onion, thinly sliced

8 flat mushrooms or Portobello mushrooms

8 slices burger buns

Iceberg lettuce

2 ripe tomatoes, sliced

2 cloves garlic

1/2 cup tzatziki

Olive oil

Salt and pepper

Grease a grilling pan or barbecue grill with olive oil. Place it under medium heat.

Grill the onions for 10 minutes or until they are golden brown. Flip the onions once in a while. Season it with salt and pepper. If the onions become too dry, you may add some olive oil. Transfer the onions to a plate but keep warm.

Next, grill the mushrooms on high heat. Pour a little olive oil on mushrooms and season it with salt and pepper. Cook it for 2-3 minutes on each side or until tender.

Heat the bread on the pan for 2-3 minutes or until they are light brown. Rub the garlic cloves on the bread.

Assemble the burgers by topping the bread with lettuce and tomatoes. Place the mushroom on top and add the onions. Put a dollop of tzatziki and top with another slice of bread. Do the same for the remaining ingredients. Serve warm.
