Asian Pork Patties with Grilled Pineapples

May 17, 2011 By Delia

Here’s a healthier alternative to the classic Hawaiian burger. This Asian inspired recipe is sweet and definitely tasty. I suggest that you forget about the buns and have it with a salad instead. It is a hearty meal with a zest.

4 servings

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce

2 scallions, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger

2 teaspoons sesame oil, divided

1 pound ground pork

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

4 pineapple rings, 1/4 inch thick

4 cups or 1 large bunch of watercress, tough stems removed

1 cup shredded carrot

Preheat the grill to medium-high and grease it with oil.

Place the soy sauce, scallions, garlic, ginger and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil in a small bowl. Stir.

In a medium bowl, combine the pork and half of the soy sauce mixture. Mix well and form 4 patties about 3/4 inch thick.

Add 1 teaspoon sesame oil and vinegar to the remaining sauce and set aside.

Grill the burgers for 5-8 minutes per side or until they are done. When they are almost cooked, grill the pineapple rings for 4-5 minutes on each side or until dark grill marks appear.

Combine the watercress, carrots and 2 tablespoons of sauce in a bowl. Toss.

Put the salad in 4 individual plates and top each one with a burger and pineapple ring. Drizzle with remaining sauce. Serve immediately.
