June 23, 2011 By Lorraine

Recipe portals and search engines are amongst the hottest of trends on the web today where the old world meets the new. Sites such as Epicurious, Chow and AllRecipes are just a few examples of where you can surf to to get recipes, cooking tips and menu advice. But which of the major recipe sites offer the most for the end user? In this infographic, we visually analyze which elements are covered by ten of the more well know recipe portals and search engines, rating them accordingly.

The online recipe search market is still expanding and there are new players arriving on the scene constantly, in many cases offering better end user experience and resources than some of the older, more established sites as analyzed in this inforgraphic. Here are five that we tip to break into the “Top 20 Recipe Sites” by next year:

Introducing Recipe Finder, The Smart Way to Find Cooking Recipes

December 9, 2010 By Delia

All of us love food and more even we love cooking ourselves (or passing recipes to our partners, quietly hinting that we would like to eat a specific dish in some hours). 😉

The internet is large though and often it is difficult to find decent recipes, especially high quality recipes. Blogs such as ours can sadly only cover that many recipes every day and even us recipe writers occasionally need to crawl the internet for inspiration and then try out different recipes before we settle on one, which we might slightly tweak before we report it back to you.

Luckily finding cooking recipes seems to become easier as the internet matures and now there’s a new semantic search engine for food lovers in town: Recipe Finder.

Recipe Finder Homepage

One of the interest details about Recipe Finder is its ability to search and sort recipes with an advanced set of filters, such as servings, preparation time and soon also by calories ((The team tells me that the search by calories has been implemented already but they are still checking the results and reindexing all crawled sites. This feature should be integrated by the end of next week)).

Other great features are the inclusion of found images and the highlighted commentary for indexed search results as can be found in the screengrabs below. [Read more…]
