The Dangers That Lay Within Your Kitchen

June 16, 2016 By Rebecca

You may sometimes worry about the dangers of kitchens in restaurants, but how often do you think about the dangers in your own home kitchen. Even if your are bleaching your counters on a daily basis your kitchen can still be a toxic place. You may not need to worry about lawsuits from your own family if someone in your home gets food poisoning, but you still want to make sure that you are creating a healthy environment in your home, and in your kitchen.

Germs On Kitchen Counters

How often you clean your kitchen counter, and what what you are cleaning it with, can affect how your healthy your kitchen is. Think about the things that you make on your kitchen counters. Do you wipe them down every time, and with what?

If you’ve prepared meat of some sort on your counter, you want to make sure you’re removing any of the leftover juices off your counter. Bleach can help, but it is also a toxin that could be damaging to your skin and lungs, and to your family. Consider shopping around for some natural germ killing cleaners to use in your kitchen.

Mold In Your Kitchen

When was the last time you checked for mold in your kitchen? It could be hiding in a few different places, from inside your refrigerator to under your sink. You need to look for mold anywhere that water or condensation might be.

Mold can have its effect on the body, not matter what type of mold it is. However, if you have black mold you’ll want to deal with it quickly and swiftly. Black mold can lead to respiratory issues, and can be very damaging to people that have illnesses like asthma.

The Food In Your Refrigerator

One other place in your kitchen that could pose a threat to your family and your health is the food in your refrigerator. How often do you clean out your fridge and toss things like leftovers? You could be harboring some sickening food poisons in your fridge if it has been a while since you cleaned it out.

Take some time to research how long certain things are good for, including your favorite condiments (once you’ve opened them). You want to do this for items in your freezer as well, to avoid things like freezer burn.

Your home kitchen has nightmares hiding in the corners of your fridge, your stove, and even your sink. If you take the time once a week, or so, to do some cleaning and tossing you’ll help avoid health issues, including food poisoning. Why not try hard to keep your kitchen a safe place where food is a good thing, and not something you have to wonder about.
