What Kind of Food Can the Family Expect When Dads Take Over the Kitchen?

August 19, 2013 By Delia

It has always been a food for thought for me why there are so many male professional chefs and yet dads taking charge of home kitchens are still somewhat of an uncommon wonder. I hate to think that many people would see domestic cooking as inferior to professional cooking. Fortunately, many men now look beyond stereotyping. What results then can we expect from men who have taken on the kitchen challenge?

Kitchen Stereotyping

We are all familiar with gender stereotyping  and how it has extended to the territories of the kitchen. Mothers or wives take charge of the kitchen while fathers or husbands are not expected to go near it to cook. At best, a dad doing the grilling in the backyard is an acceptable and familiar picture at home.

For a man to completely take over the kitchen is a bit unthinkable especially if his wife is around. In many homes all over the world, men are showing that they are not quite as helpless in the kitchen as most would think. In fact, many dads are keeping their families happy and contented with their own brand of cooking.

So What Can We Expect From Dads in the Kitchen?

From what I gather from my friends and my own experience, men can actually turn out to be more meticulous in the kitchen  than most women. Many have the patience to prepare food that does not only tastes good but also looks good. A lot would be open to experimentation. That and the desire to provide the best for the family ensure that there is something that can be expected from dads taking care of the kitchen.

The family can expect order in the kitchen, variety in food served, and probably a lot of humor in preparing them. Dads are likewise very willing to let their children help in the kitchen. They also consider the Internet a very useful resource for new recipes they would like to try.

So How Do They Do It?

Good food that comes from the home kitchen always comes with love. It is easy enough to prepare such food for other people when paid to do so but it is only love for family and the task of cooking itself that can make anyone of us do it without asking anything in return. Moms have been historically doing this and dads can also do it.

A big part of enjoying good food is the manner in which it was prepared. A father who finds joy in cooking for his family will likewise give joy to them.
