Great Food Combinations You May Be Missing Out On

March 7, 2017 By Rebecca

Many restaurants these days know that certain foods combine well with certain ingredients, and when you look at their menus, you may wonder why they are putting cranberries in your salad. However, you should trust them because that really do know what they’re doing. It can be fun to experiment with other flavors and tastes too, even in your own kitchen.

If you are looking to give your taste buds a run for their money, it’s time to make some changes to the way you view foods and how they fit together. Here are a few tips on getting more adventurous with your meal combinations.

Add Fruit To It

Fruit can be great added to any number of dishes you may not have considered adding the to, the least of which is a salad. Add apples and raisins to your salad, or strawberries and blueberries. The biggest decision will be picking the right dressing, a vinaigrette is usually an excellent choice paired with meats and fruits. Skip the traditional tomatoes in a salad with fruit, though!

Fruit it great in sandwiches as well, and both grapes and apples are a great addition to tuna mixes. If you’re disbelieving, look up some recipes online. You may just be surprised.

Try A Different Meat

You don’t always have to be traditional when it comes to meat dishes. There are many options for meats, from ground to whole, these days. Why not experiment a little? This means more than just swapping out burger for sausage in your spaghetti or lasagna.

Have you tried a sloppy Tom yet? Simply swap the hamburger in your sloppy Joe with some turkey. You can do shredded turkey or ground turkey. White meat is also a far better, and healthier, option over red meat. Use chicken in place of burger meat (make them from ground chicken if you’d like, or use a breast) and even have chicken tacos.

The Snack Tray

Snacking options are important. You want to make healthy choices, but also tasty ones. Popcorn is always can excellent dietary snack option, but air-popped popcorn without butter can get boring. Add seasonings from the cupboard to it, from pizza seasoning to cinnamon, for a great snack.

Fruit and cheese pairings are a healthy snack. You’ll get the dairy you need with a sweet backing. If you like eggs, which are actually good for you, consider trying some fun new deviled egg recipes. Stuff them with guacamole or mix salsa with the yolks.

Don’t be afraid to try new things when it comes to meals. The more you change up what you eat on a daily basis the less you’ll crave things that are bad for you, like fast food and junk food.
