Mashed Potatoes

March 12, 2011 By Delia

Here is a simple recipe on how to prepare mashed potatoes. They say that you should start cooking it with cold water because it will cook evenly. Starting it off with warm water will make the outer part mushy, but the insides hard. This is because the starch granules coat the potato and it prevents the water from penetrating the potato.

Garlic salt is also a good alternative, to make the mashed potatoes tastier.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lbs. Yukon gold potatoes, peeled

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons heavy cream or sour cream

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon milk

Salt and Pepper

Place the potatoes in a pot and pour in some water. Add the salt. Make sure that the potatoes are submerged in water. Boil it until the potatoes are soft. Poke it with a fork to test doneness.

Drain the potatoes. Place them in a bowl and mash them.

In a small saucepan or microwave, melt the butter. Mix in the cream and milk.

Add the milk and butter mixture to the potatoes slowly and mix it well. Season it with salt and pepper to taste.
