Pistachio Milkshake

March 19, 2011 By Delia

I am a big fan of almond milk. I find it tastier than regular milk. Pistachio milkshake is similar to it. If you are feeling lazy, you can blend some pistachio ice cream and milk; although, nothing beats the real thing because you can control the flavor by adding more nuts or sweetener for example.

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons raw pistachio

2 1/2 cups milk

1 cup condensed milk

Saffron

1 cup crushed ice

Soak the pistachios in water for 1 hour. After, drain the water and chop the pistachios. Set aside 1 tablespoon of chopped pistachios for garnish.

In a blender, blend the pistachios and 1/2 cup of milk for 1 minute or until smooth.

In a saucepan, pour in the remaining milk, nut milk mixture and saffron. Bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer until it froths. Remove it from the heat and add the condensed milk. Mix well. Strain the milk and let it cool.

Place the ice and the pistachio milk in a blender. Blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Serve in individual glasses and garnish with the chopped pistachios.

Berry Banana Power Smoothie

January 31, 2011 By Delia

Most people nowadays are too busy to have a real breakfast. Here is a healthy breakfast recipe that you can have on the go. It can also serve as a post workout food to replenish the energy you consumed.

For healthier shakes, opt for real juices and low fat milk. Also use frozen fruits instead of ice for creamier drinks. The order when blending also matter, start with liquids and soft items first before adding nuts or frozen fruits.

Power smoothies can give you enough vitamins and energy to jump-start your day. Be creative and use any fruit you wish. You may even add a tablespoon of flax or hulled hemp seeds for more nutrition. Some even use tofu and organic eggs.

If there are leftovers, you can put them in popsicle molds and eat it as snacks. Kids will definitely enjoy this healthy treat as well.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup frozen mixed berries

1 frozen banana

2 tablespoons almonds

¼ cup rolled oats

1/2 cup low fat or soy milk

1 cup plain yogurt

Pour milk and yogurt into the blender. Add the almonds and oatmeal. Blend for 2-3 minutes or until smooth.

Place the frozen banana and berries into the blender with the milk mixture. Blend until smooth.

Serve cold.

Melon and Pineapple crush

November 1, 2010 By Delia

A picture paints a thousand words…and look how beautiful the drink above looks, that is, if you can draw yourself away from the beautiful sea and sun in the background!

This little taste of summer will warm you up on even the coldest of Winter evenings, and it’s great for when you’re searching for the elusive Winter Sun break!

Serves 2
100ml pineapple juice
4 tbsp orange juice
125g galia melon, cut into chunks
140g frozen pineapple chunks
4 ice cubes

1. Pour the Pineapple juice and orange juice into a blender and process gently
2. Add the melon, pineapple chunks and ice cubes and process until it’s a nice slushy consistency
3. Pour into glasses, decorate with slices of melon, pineapple or mint.
4. Serve as soon as possible, to make sure the ice cubes aren’t too watery.

Sour Cherry Smoothie

October 27, 2010 By Delia

This smoothie is quite a sharp flavour, with a creamy, smooth texture. The mix of the flavours and feelings makes this a sure-fire hit, and a great way to wake yourself up in the morning. You can also use it as in Ice Cream sauce if you add less yoghurt, and pour it over the top of Vanilla Ice cream for a lovely treat, even more so if you warm it up slightly first – just thirty seconds in a microwave is all that’s needed.

Cherry Smoothie

250g bottled, stoned Morello Cherries
150ml Greek Yoghurt
Sugar (to taste)

1. Put the Morello cherries, with their liquid into a blender with the yoghurt and process until smooth.
2. Add as much sugar if wanted – start by tasting as it is, then adding small amounts at a time. It’s easier to put more sugar in, than to add more Cherries!
3. Pour and Serve
